How to Join the A-Staff
REALLY WANT IT
The A-Staff is a difficult group to join. There are A LOT of students that want to be in the A-Staff. If you really want to be one of the few that makes it... keep reading.
LIVE THE CODE
A-Staff members MUST follow the A-Staff code. Click here to see the code. If you're willing to live by the code, keep reading.
EXCELLENT GRADES
Before you talk to Mr. Pettit about joining the A-Staff, make sure you have EXCELLENT grades. That means pretty close to ALL A's (or 4's as we call them these days...). It is the "A" Staff, after all. If you have good grades, keep reading.
EXCELLENT CITIZENSHIP
Before you talk to Mr. Pettit, make sure you haven't been suspended for anything super serious. If you've had issues with fights, drugs, or weapons don't get your hopes up. Granite Park administration has to give the "okay" before you get in. If you're still interested, keep reading.

JOIN FILM CLASS
To join the A-Staff, you must FIRST join the FILM CLASS. It is currently offered on A days (3rd period). The film class is where you learn all the rules of filming. The rule of 180º, rule of thirds, how to add depth, how to white balance, acting techniques, editing theory, etc. There is A LOT to learn. Film class students take A LOT of notes and A LOT of tests. If you're willing to work your butt off learning how to make movies, keep reading.
STEPS TO JOIN FILM CLASS
To join the film class you must:
- Get a teacher letter of recommendation (from a math, english, or AVID teacher). Talk to your teacher, and have them EMAIL MR. PETTIT. Have them tell Mr. Pettit why YOU would be a good A-Staffer. Hard working? Honest? Dedicated? Creative?
- Pass an Admin background check (Once your letter of recommendation is in, Mr. Pettit will submit your name).
- Have a GPA of 3.5+ (the higher the better)
- Pass the Pre-Staff entrance test (study the "Filmmaking Process" link, take C-Notes, and then turn notes in to get the test)
- Prove work ethic by working with current A-Staff / film class students
STEPS TO JOIN THE A-STAFF
Once in the film class, you must earn points. Every time you earn 2+ points in a week, your name goes before the A-Staff for a vote. If no one votes against you, you are admitted into the A-Staff. Congratulations!
